Sevens Boks prepare for Singapore
The Springbok Sevens squad has assembled in Johannesburg for a camp before they leave on Sunday for the Singapore leg of the IRB Sevens Series.
The South Africans go into the tournament (April 16 and 17) as the defending champions of the Singapore leg, after their victory in the final last year against Argentina (24-19).
The 12-member squad features six of the players who flew back home victorious from Singapore last year. They are Fabian Juries, Stefan Basson, Danwell Demas, Dale Heidtman, Jose Van Rensburg and Mzwandile Stick. Ryno Benjamin makes his international Sevens debut at the tournament, although he has been part of previous training camps.
“I am very impressed with the squad,” said coach Paul Treu. “We are determined to defend our title - we also have one of our quickest teams, to date. I am also happy that Jongi Nokwe will have been with us from the initial preparations for this particular leg.”
